Visitor Policy
Antonia’s Goldendoodle Babies is dedicated to raising the healthiest puppies for our new puppy owners. For this reason, we have necessary policies regarding the visiting of our puppies.
Getting your puppy from a reputable breeder is likely a huge priority for you. Good breeders will often set high standards in regard to visitation, choosing a puppy, and the pick-up process.
We sometimes get asked why we don’t allow customers or their current animals to visit our puppies. You may think that it is a good idea to meet the breeder and the puppy parents before choosing your puppy, but this is a potentially dangerous option. Our puppies are raised in our private home, and we choose to be very careful who we open our home to, just as you would for your home. Visiting me and our adult dogs means that you would be close enough to our new born puppies for them to contract sickness before getting their immunizations.
Safety of the Pups:
1. Puppies have very vulnerable immune systems. Many visitors have unknowingly brought disease (parvovirus, distemper, etc) with them when visiting puppies, the result of which can be the death of an entire litter.
2. Visitors in the home can create stress for the mother dog, who already has a protective temperament. This stress creates cortisol which can be passed to the puppies through the mother’s milk, causing them to also become stressed.
3. Mother’s can unintentionally hurt their pups when an unknown visitor arrives. She may feel the need to assess a potential threat, and in moving quickly, step her one or more of her puppies, injuring them.
4. I do not consider myself the owner of these puppies. They have been purchased (or will be purchased) by families like yours, and I am merely the guardian. As such, it is my purpose to protect them for their owners.
Safety of my dogs and family
1. This is a private residence. Inviting strangers into my home can potentially put my dogs and my family at risk.
2. Maintaining a normal family life involves engaging in regular activities, fulfilling responsibilities, and upholding commitments. Allowing unknown visitors into our home environment can disrupt the natural family dynamics and impede everyday living.
3. Visitation takes time away from caring for and attending to your (potentially) new puppy. In addition to this, it will take away time that can be spent with my animals. Spending time with animals is one of my most enjoyable activities, and is primarily why I started breeding.
4. We are not a petting zoo. While some people think that snuggling with puppies would be a fun afternoon, (and we understand why they would) it can create health problems or other issues for our animals and the future puppies.
Thank you for understanding why we will not compromise on the health and safety of our puppies and hope you will see this as a positive quality of a trustworthy breeder.
